About me
Throughout my life, I’ve had the privilege of being alongside others in some of life’s darkest moments. Before becoming a therapist, I was a senior producer at the BBC. As a journalist, I was often moved by the incredible trust people put in me when telling their stories. These one-to-one encounters helped to shape me into the person I am today. They also gave me the courage to follow my heart and take what many might consider an illogical step – moving away from an established, successful career at its peak to dive into unknown waters.
From journalism to psychotherapy
Meeting others in their vulnerability and helping them to find their true voice has always felt like a calling to me. For this reason, moving into psychotherapy, after many years in journalism, felt like a natural transition. Having become a therapist later in life, I find I am able to connect well with clients of all different ages and backgrounds. My years in journalism help me to keep an open and curious mind as a therapist. I have a deep understanding of the pressures of work such as constant deadlines, managing stress, and leading teams. It isn’t easy trying to balance it all with family, relationships, caring responsibilities and staying healthy both physically and emotionally.
Transition
During my training as a therapist, I worked with two charities, one supporting serving and retired police officers, the other offering counselling to unpaid carers. Both experiences gave me tremendous insights into the struggles faced by frontline workers committed to the service of others. Their courage and resilience continue to inspire me in my work in private practice.
What gives me energy
Outside the therapy room, I enjoy being active. I have always loved sport and was a performance athlete in my youth. I played tennis for my county and competed in both the National Championships of Great Britain and of Ireland. I have experienced the demands of playing elite sport, coping with injury and overcoming performance anxiety. As an adult, I still play county level tennis and have also discovered the joys of running. I have run a marathon along with several half marathons and 10Ks. Running is one of my favourite ways to relax along with walking, cycling, meditation and reading.
